A voluntary boot drive will be held Friday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the routes 17 and 90 intersection to support Rockport Fire Department's Pacific Engine Co.

Fire Chief Jason Peasley said the department created the nonprofit group three years ago so the department could raise money to assist with projects in the community.

Department volunteers will be at the intersection holding firemen's boots and drivers wishing to make donations may do so, but it is a voluntary event.

This is the third year the department has held the fundraiser and last year's fundraiser helped to provide three scholarships to students continuing their education in fire service, and also Class B uniforms were purchased for the department, Peasley said.

Peasley said this year the department is looking to raise more funds to award additional college scholarships, help members of the community in need and purchase a new extrication tool for the West Rockport truck.

Anyone interested in making a donation can drive through the toll booth Aug. 12 or mail a check to Rockport Fire Department Inc., P.O. Box 142, Rockport, ME 04856, or drop it off at the fire station during regular business hours.
