The community is invited to a Summer Family Fun Event Saturday, Aug. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Old Brick School, 44 School St. (behind the Warren Baptist Church).

Musician and artist Joey Orchulli will provide entertainment and display his beautiful photography, which will be for sale. For more information about Orchulli, visit

The main attraction will be a BBQ & Baked Bean Supper for $10, free for children younger than 10; tickets will go on sale at 4 p.m. and serving will begin about 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come support the community center effort by attending this family-oriented event, playing with the kids and touring the Old Brick School to see the in-progress renovations. Bringing a lawn chair for seating is suggested.

Warren Baptist Church purchased the old school building property, which is adjacent to the church. The opportunity provides more parking for church functions, continual use of the recreation field for T-ball, a basketball court and the opportunity to offer some other community-based outreaches. The church formed Old Brick School Committee to work on a vision and fundraising for this property. The mission statement for the center is “To positively impact our community with God’s love.”

Plans are for the community center to house the Bread for the Journey Warren Food Pantry, which currently operates in the Fellowship Room of the church; and the Community Clothes Closet, which currently operates out of Second Congregational Church and is in need of space. Also planned is a large meeting space in one room, with other features to come later. The group will start a portion of the building, and is currently fundraising for these main outreach areas.
