Katherine Severns Avery will present an author talk about her book, “Your Countdown to Retirement,” Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. at Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.

Most Baby Boomers know they need a financial plan when they retire; however, many are unprepared for the emotional and psychological adjustments involved in this major life change. This lack of preparation may have tremendous consequences: rates of divorce, substance abuse and suicide in those 65 and older are rising.

Severns maintains that while there is still time to make changes, Baby Boomers need to assess what they want from their retirement experience and create a plan for their transition from working to not working. As 76 million Baby Boomers reach retirement age and leave the workforce, virtually every aspect of life in the United States likely will be affected by this dramatic shift in national demographics.

This event, sponsored by the Friends of the Rockland Library and the library, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 594-0310.
