It's an exciting time at the Pope Memorial Humane Society. We have finally started the move to the new shelter, located right next door to the current shelter. It's going to take some time to move all the animals, equipment and supplies over and to train the staff in the new facility.

To make the transition as quick and efficient as possible, we will be closed to the public during this time. Residents from our service towns who need to relinquish an animal can still do so by calling and setting up an appointment at 594-2200. We apologize for the inconvenience. We appreciate your patience during this transitional period, but it will be worth it. The changes and upgrades in the new shelter will not only benefit the animals in our care, but also the staff and the community as a whole. Look for us to reopen in early August.

Mumford, a gregarious gray and white male cat, has made the move over to the new facility with his fellow felines and he seems to be enjoying the new cat wall shelves in one of our three new free-roaming cat rooms. These shelves provide lots of vertical space for the cats to climb. They love their new temporary digs, but will be looking forward to the reopening of the shelter when their wish for a new family can be fulfilled. The dogs are also reveling in their new, roomier kennels. The new dog wing is brighter and showcases our available dogs perfectly.

We do have several litters of absolutely adorable puppies and kittens available for adoption. Visit our Facebook page to see who is ready for adoption. If you are interested in adopting, call the shelter at 594-2200 to make an appointment.

Wish list: Large Kuranda dog beds, canned dog and cat food, large black garbage bags, hand soap, bleach, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, gift certificates to Wal-Mart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses. Thanks for your support.
