A high-energy contra dance is set for Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 to 11 p.m. at Watts Hall, downtown on Main Street/Route 1.

The “hot contra” evening features the band JEMS, which includes Ed Howe of Perpetual e-Motion fame. Other Midcoast musicians in the band are Jamie Oshima, Matt Kenney and Stuart Kenney. Ted Steele, Lincolnville summer resident, will teach and call all dances.

The dance will benefit Blueberry Cove Camp in Tenants Harbor; and Tanglewood 4H Camp in Lincolnville. Both are University of Maine-sponsored nonprofit 4H camps and learning centers, including school programs in the off seasons. The mission includes helping children realize their own potential; be stewards of a sustainable environment; and support peaceful communities.

Admission is by donation, suggested at $20. Watts Hall is located is a large brick building on the east side of the road. For more information, email writer@midcoast.com.
