“Beethoven’s Wig,” an innovative show blending live performance with animations of famous musicians and classical instruments, will be at the downtown Camden Opera House one night only — Friday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m.

The show features witty singing and funny lyrics set to masterpieces by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and more. The cartoon characters sing along with, dance and talk to creator Richard Perlmutter, thus comprising his Cartoon Orchestra. And Beethoven himself is a wisecracking animated character who conducts the entire crew.

The show has received high praise as being an engaging introduction to classical music for children, and parents enjoy it, too. “Beethoven’s Wig” has received five Parents Choice awards, four Grammy nominations and more than 50 awards including for the film/animated sequences, which were developed by Smiley Guy Studios. Their work for this show has become official selections at more than 20 International Film Festivals, garnering Best Short Animation for Children citations.

The evening is sponsored by Abigails Inn Bed & Breakfast in Camden. Tickets are $14, $9 for children, available by calling 536-5850; at www.camdenoperahouse.com; or at the door a half hour prior to show time.
