At its Monday, Aug. 1 meeting, Appleton Historical Society will hear from Christi Mitchell, assistant director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, who will speak on historic preservation in Maine and the 50th anniversary of the Federal legislation which underwrites historic preservation throughout the country.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the meeting house, 2875 Sennebec Road in Appleton Village, uphill from the fire station.

In Appleton Mitchell has been instrumental in listing of the Appleton Meetinghouse and the Whitney Farm on the National Register of Historic Places.

On Friday, Aug. 5, Appleton Historical Society will be having an auction to benefit the Appleton Meetinghouse Restoration Fund. The Auction will begin with a Silent Auction and Preview at 5 p.m. The live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m, with Tom Johnston as auctioneer. Appleton Volunteer Fire Department will have food and beverages available at the Meetinghouse as a fundraiser for the Fire Department.
