Author Josh Christie will present a talk Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. at Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St. His new book, written with his late father John, “The Maine Outdoor Adventure Guide,” is a trip-oriented guide, with each entry focusing on a specific activity at a particular location.

The book presents a series of day or weekend trips that could comprise an entire summer of exploration or be stretched out over years. Combined, the trips represent a broad-based discovery of the entire state of Maine. Josh will discuss his history of exploring the Maine outdoors with his father, working as an outdoors writer, and give examples of his favorite adventures in the Midcoast and beyond.

Josh Christie has written and contributed to a number of works of nonfiction including “Maine Beer,” “Skiing Maine” and “Read This.” He is a regular contributor to the Maine Sunday Telegram; and has contributed to Thrillist, Panels and the Portland Phoenix, among other publications. A former board member of the eastern chapter of the North American Snow Sports Journalists Association, Christie served five years on the board of directors of the New England Independent Booksellers Association. He is opening an independent bookstore on Portland's East End this fall.

This event, sponsored by the Friends of the Rockland Library and the library, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 594-0310.
