The Port Clyde Art Gallery will feature Addie Peet’s floorcloths Wednesday, July 27, through Aug. 15, with an opening reception Saturday, July 30, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Having grown up on the coast of Maine, Peet has developed a truly utilitarian floor cover to meet the demands of the active Maine lifestyle. After years of testing and trial, she has created a rug of heavyweight canvas and marine-grade acrylics that is easy to clean, stain resistant and hypoallergenic.

These practical benefits accommodate a lifestyle where work boots are rarely taken off at the front door and muddy paw prints are common in all four seasons. Combined with her handpainted contemporary designs, these are truly functional, durable and beautiful floor coverings.

The Port Clyde Art Gallery, which also showcases work by 14 local artists, is located in the village — upstairs in the red barn, across from the general store. It is open Wednesdays through Mondays from noon to 6 p.m.
