Butterfly enthusiast and author Roger Rittmaster will lead a presentation titled Capturing Maine Butterflies: A Photographic Quest Tuesday, July 26, at noon at Merryspring Nature Center. Merryspring is located at the end of Conway Road, just off of Route 1 in Camden behind Hannaford Shopping Plaza.

Rittmaster’s colorful slideshow will detail the diversity of butterflies in Maine including what exactly is a butterfly; life histories of some species; where to locate butterflies in the Camden-Rockport area; and tips for approaching and photographing these Lepidoptera for great photos.

Rittmaster is a retired endocrinologist with a lifelong interest in natural history and nature photography; over the past 15 years, he has focused on photographing insects. He is a Maine Master Naturalist and the author of “Butterflies Up Close: A guide to Butterfly Photography” He and his wife Jeannie live in Camden.
