Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., and the Coastal Children’s Museum, 75 Mechanic St., are teaming up to hold a School Supply Drive to benefit the RSU 13 school district.

Donations will be accepted throughout the month of August at the library or the Children’s Museum. Donations of various items needed by both students and teachers are requested. Examples of items are notebooks, pens, tissues and backpacks. For a complete list of suggested items, visit the calendar page at coastalchildrensmuseum.org.

More than 50 percent of the students in RSU 13 are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches due to low household income.

“Both the Children’s Museum and the library are paramount organizations in our community for families to learn and grow together,” said Elise Huff, outreach and program coordinator for the Children’s Museum. “To think that some of the children who walk through our doors have to go to school without pens, notebooks or lunchboxes, or carry their books because they can’t afford a new backpack is heartbreaking. So, we’re doing something about it and we’re asking for help from the community.”

Donations may be dropped off at either location throughout the month of August during open hours. For more information on this event, call the library at 594-0310, or the museum at 596-0300.
