The Apprenticeshop hosted the 13th annual Red Jacket Regatta & Maritime Festival Saturday July 16. More than 75 area Penobscot Bay sailors participated in two fleets of 420s and Optimists.

Teams included Northport Yacht Club, Rockport Boat Club, Lincolnville Boat Club, Camden Yacht Club, Castine Yacht Club, North Haven Casino, Big Tree Boating of Islesboro, St. George Sailing and The Apprenticeshop. All sailors showed skill and patience, as the little wind available shifted constantly throughout the day.

The Optimist fleet completed eight races. Camden Yacht Club sailors took third place, with 25 points. Placing first and second in the Optimist fleet with 19 and 24 points, respectively, was North Haven Casino, whose sailors had consistently strong finishes for the day.

The 420 fleet had longer courses and equally challenging light air conditions, yet they sailed six races. Big Tree Boating of Islesboro placed first, with 12 points. Castine Yacht Club sailors came in second, with 15 points and North Haven Casino sailors took third, with 22 points.

The Sportsmanship Award went to St. George sailor Sebastian Lawson, who had a smile on his face all day. The Coach’s Award went to Big Tree Boating sailor Olivia Reeves, who went above and beyond in helping others.

Spectators ashore enjoyed food and drink from The Galley Box food truck, and an oar-making and small boatbuilding demonstration coupled with an open house.
