High-octane rock band Fifth Freedom is set to release its second CD, “Heartbreak & Hellfire.”  The classically-rooted rock with a bluesy swagger on this CD comes from the energy of two new band members, guitarists Seth McClellan and Ian Dyer, a 2016 grad of Vinalhaven High School.

Dyer (guitar) and McClellan (bass ) join Alan Jones (vocals, guitars) and Gary Marston (drums) to activate a new energy and focus within Fifth Freedom that has transposed into powerful new material. Over the winter, the band entered the studio to track its sophomore full-length record with producer Jon Wyman at The Halo Studios.

The CD includes a full breadth of songs that range from heavy rock anthems to earnest bluesy ballads that shout from the depths of frontman Jones' soul.

“This new music comes from the excitement of having excellent new band mates and from some of my own, very personal stories about the ebb and flow of relationship struggles to the highs and lows of being a local musician,” Jones said. “Ian is only 17 but listening to his prolific guitar playing, you would think he was 35 years old and played with Led Zeppelin.”

The CD was mastered by the Grammy Award-winning engineer Adam Ayan and the renowned Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland. Ayan’s diverse list of credits includes projects for such artists as Nirvana, Madonna, Foo Fighters, Carrie Underwood, The Rolling Stones, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, Sarah McLachlan and Rascal Flatts.

A CD release party will be held Friday night, July 29, at the Empire, 575 Congress St. Doors will open at 7 p.m. For more information on the band, visit fifthfreedom.band.
