Unity College Center for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St., will present the power duo of Vicky Andres and Max McFarland Friday, July 29, at 7 p.m.

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Andres performs with complete abandon; her passionate vocals go from a vulnerable whisper to a courageous roar, and her intricate guitar work on both acoustic and electric is driving and rhythmic. Andres mixes funk, single-note lines with chord progressions that flow with a true songwriting sensibility.

McFarland is a matching rare gem with a percussive bass-playing style on his custom-made 11-string bass makes him far more than a supportive bass player. McFarland navigates a highway-sized, fret-less neck with ease and has a fresh approach to his two-handed technique that is ahead of its time.

Together, Andres and McFarland deliver an intense performance that is edgy, energetic and positive, fitting somewhere between alternative, rock and funk. Admission to the show of truly original music is $15, available in advance online at uccpa.unity.edu.
