Mars Hall Gallery, 621 Port Clyde Road/Route 131, will present "Leo & Company," the story of two artists and friends — the late Leo Brooks (1909-1993) of the Bronx and Monhegan Island; and Elaine Reed of New Jersey and Bath — as well as an updated “Art with Attitude.” A reception for both shows is set for Friday, July 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Brooks and Reed met and painted together on Monhegan for 12 years, as well as sharing time in New York and New Jersey. "He was a friend, a critic and a mentor to me," Reed said. A member of Woman Artists of Monhegan Island, Reed will be exhibiting recent works from her Night Rhythms Series, done in the deconstructed watercolor method. The show will feature Brooks' work from several collections including postcard paintings he sent to a dear friend in the Bronx; two paintings that hung on the wall in his Bronx apartment; and several pieces that haven't been shown before. A collection of letters and postcards between the friends also will be on display.

The main gallery’s ever-changing “Art with Attitude” exhibition showcases not only art, but also an expanded selection of fine antiques and collectibles. On display are paintings by Nancy Baker, Jeanette Steele Esposito, Linda Funk, Kris Johnson, Roger Kirby, Sharon Larkin, Nat Lewis, Maurice Michel Lode, Greg Mort, Elaine Niemi, Cam Noel, C.W. Oakes, David Paffhausen, Jimmy Reed, Mimo Gordon Riley, Holly Smith, Carl Sublett, William Thon, Ron Weaver and Eleanor Zuccola. Also on exhibit is black-and-white pinhole photography by Antonia Small; mixed media assemblage by Bill Cook and Constance Kiermaier; whimsical driftwood fish by Claire Perry; a variety of quality crafts including decoupage by Davene Fahy; handcarved decoys by Stephan Hill; and mixed media stained glass, mosaics and pottery by Dona Bergen. Metal sculptors Jay Hoagland and Brian Read will have works on display through out the gallery, as well as outside in the sculpture gardens.

Both shows will run through Aug. 21. The gallery, located 12.7 miles down the beautiful St. George peninsula, is open Wednesday s through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, call 372-9996 or visit
