Master metalsmith Doug Borkman will return to The Apprenticeshop, 655 Main St., this summer for his three-day bronze casting workshop.

This is a well-attended class that covers all the basics of bronze casting: pattern-making, sandcasting, bronze pouring, polishing and finishing. Borkman is an expert in metallurgy and provides students with a comprehensive background in casting methods. Bronze casting will run Monday through Wednesday, July 18 through 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $425 and includes at $50 materials fee.

Borkman is an instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he teaches wood and metal shop practice in the BFA and MFA Sculpture programs. He has previously taught at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine.
