Thursday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m., Bay Chamber Concerts will launch its 56th Summer Concert Series at the Rockport Opera House with an opening night concert of glorious German music plus a new American quartet by “Marriage Suites” (Bay Chamber Festival 2015) composer Missy Mazzoli.

The acclaimed Aeolus Quartet will perform with Jesse Blumberg, who Opera Today calls "one of America’s great young baritones." Tickets for Opening Night are $45, $10 for those younger than age 25. This specially priced event includes a champagne reception following the performance at Union Hall, 24 Central St., Rockport, just down the street from the opera house (6 Central).

On Friday, July 15, at 8:30 p.m. at Union Hall, Bay Chamber Concerts will present “Green Sneakers,” Ricky Ian Gordon’s most personal and intimate work. The mini-opera was written in search of solace from grief after the loss of his partner, Jeffrey Grossi, to AIDS, following their last few months together. Every live performance of the work is a cathartic experience, leaving audiences moved and uplifted. Blumberg will perform with the Aeolus Quartet.

Tickets for Café Nights at Union Hall are $35, $10 for those younger than 25. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit baychamberconcerts.org or call 236-2823.  Subscriptions are still available for the summer series.

The Season Media Underwriter for the 2016 Summer Concert Series is Down East Magazine. The Thursday Night Series Underwriter is Viking Lumber, the Café Nights at Union Hall Underwriter is Macy’s and the Concert Series Lodging Underwriter is Camden Riverhouse Hotels & Inns.
