Thomaston brothers achieve academic excellence

Stephen Ranney of Thomaston, a 2006 Graduate of Georges Valley High School, graduated in May from Tufts University School of Medicine – Maine Track, as a Doctor of Medicine with an Honos Civicus Society distinction.

His younger brother Walker Ranney, also of Thomaston, a freshman in the University of South Carolina Honors College, achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for the 2015-16 academic year to earn a place on the President's Honor Roll.

Dr. Ranney will complete his residency in surgery at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. He was a 2010 graduate of Wesleyan University and worked in the genetics lab at Mass General Hospital in Boston before attending medical school.

Walker Ranney, a 2015 graduate of Oceanside High School, is pursuing an Honors College degree in the nation’s highest-ranked undergraduate international business program at the Darla Moore School of Business. He is a Cooper’s Scholar at USC and is on track for majors in international business, accounting and finance.

Warren resident named to Simmons College dean’s list

BOSTON — Brooke Lowell of Warren, a political science major, was named to the 2016 spring semester dean’s list at Simmons College in Boston.

To qualify for dean’s list status, undergraduate students must obtain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, based on 12 or more credit hours of work in classes using the letter grade system.
