Our pet pick of the week Moosie is a beautiful, 6-year-old medium-haired Tortoiseshell "Tortie." This sweet girl has only known an inside-only home so isn't savvy to the hazards of outside living.  She's looking for a home where she can continue to stay inside, where she is most relaxed and happy, and experience the outside world from the comfort of a window seat and peering out the window. Moosie is fine with other cats and children and may even tolerate a well-behaved dog. She would make a wonderful, loving addition to someone's family.

We'd like to thank our foster families for taking such great care of our animals until they are ready to be adopted. Currently, we have several litters of kittens and puppies who are receiving excellent, loving care — growing bigger, stronger and getting socialized in several foster homes in preparation for their big day when find their new families. Some of the litters have moms with them; some don't and need extra support. To help give them the best, healthiest start, they need kitten and puppy milk replacement formula. Donations of both milk replacements and nursing bottles would be greatly appreciated. Help our little itty-bitties grow strong. Thanks for your support.

Don't forget to take a little extra care to keep your pets safe this Fourth of July. Many pets panic and run when exposed to the loud booms of fireworks. It may be tempting to bring your dog to join in the fun but leave him at home. Everyone will enjoy the evening much more, especially your dog.

To help you keep your pets safe, we recommend you keep them inside the house, preferably in a quiet room without windows, with a fan or radio on to muffle the sounds of the fireworks, either city-sponsored or your neighbors’ own personal fireworks displays. Also, make sure your pet is wearing an I.D. tag with current information. That's the quickest ticket home for a lost pet. If you need a tag, we can engrave one at the shelter for just $7. Have a safe and fun holiday.
