After a harsh start to the planting season, members and friends of Broad Bay Congregational, UCC, have dug scores of plants that will be for sale Saturday, June 4, at the annual springtime plant sale. The sale runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will feature a large variety of vegetables and flowers, as well as established perennials. A bake sale will run concurrently, including breakfast items to eat onsite or take home, as well as coffee, tea and juice.

Perennial flowers include columbine, phlox, daylilies, iris (including yellow, lavender and blue flag), and perhaps some delphinium seedlings. On the annual side, there will be a large selection of sweet peas, as well as zinnias, cosmos, cleome, and marigold.

Dozens of hostas will be available, including the diminutive Blue Mouse Ears and White Feather, as well as Striptease, Guacamole and Blue Cadet. There will be perennials for sunny locales, for shade gardens and some that make great ground covers. Some bushes, as well as small trees/shrubs, will be for sale.

The bake sale will feature cookies, pies, bars, brownies, cupcakes and breads.

Broad Bay Congregational, UCC, is at 941 Main St., near the Waldoboro Post Office. Proceeds from the plant sale help support Broad Bay’s work in the local community and beyond.
