There's still time to register online for the Thomaston Fourth of July 5K race and Kids’ Fun Run. This year, runners are invited to dress in the theme for the parade, "Hometown Proud-Hometown Talent," which could range from sports teams to service uniforms to performance shows. "Show your talent!" the Fourth of July Committee said in a news release.

Online registration for the 5K is available at runinarace.com until 24 hours before the race begins; choose Run A Race in the top nav bar and find the Firecracker 5K under the month of July.

Preregistration is $20. Day of race registration is $25 and T-shirts will be given to participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

The kids’ fun run is free, but donations are encouraged. Kids also receive race T-shirts. The fun run is for children 12 and younger.

Day-of-race registration begins at 7 a.m. July 4 on Beechwood Street by Route 1, in front of the old Water Dog/Billy's Tavern, and closes promptly at 8 a.m. 5K registrants are strongly encouraged to register online.

The race is run on Beechwood Street, starting immediately behind the Main Street block and continuing to Brooks Trap Mill. There, runners reverse direction and end the race at the starting point. Both runners and walkers are welcome to participate.

The one-mile Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. and the Firecracker 5K follows at 8:30 a.m.

The 5K Firecracker race will be timed. A timing company from Freeport will track the runners for this fun, non-qualifying road race. Participants’ bib numbers will have computer chips embedded, providing for an accurately timed race.

Prizes are given to the first male and female runners overall. Additionally, first-place male and female runners from six age categories are recognized. These age groups include 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and over 60.

The committee thanks the race sponsors: Mr. Tire, Fabian Oil, Rockland Ford, Brooks Trap Mill, Lyman Morse, Lowes, KDK, and Maine Printing and Embroidery.
