Olympian Julia Clukey addressed more than 300 students at Medomak Middle School June 6 as part of her new "Julia Inspires" campaign. Clukey encouraged students to find their passion, create a plan and go after their dreams.

Following her presentation, she honored student Hannah Marsden with the Julia Clukey Courage Award. Marsden received the honor “because of her integrity, passion for learning and courage to always do what is right,” according to a news release from Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association, which sponsors the “Julia Inspires” campaign.

"Hannah is a very well-rounded young lady,” Clukey said. “Her passion for education is outstanding. She also demonstrates leadership among her peers by reflecting the Medomak Middle School core values. I was excited to hear about all her artistic talents. She has a very bright future ahead of her and is very deserving of the award."

Teachers chose Marsden because “when she sets her mind on reaching a goal, she puts forth her best effort and doesn't allow anything to get in her way.”

“She has proven to be trustworthy, and gets along with everyone and is willing to help any one of her peers, as well as any adult around her. In addition to her conduct in the classroom, she is involved in several extracurricular activities in drama, art and chorus,” the news release said.

Rep. Jeffrey Evangelos of Friendship attended the ceremony.

To date, Clukey has shared her story at 61 Maine schools, reaching more than 19,000 students. The Augusta native is scheduled to present at more schools this year.

Her presentation was provided at no cost to the school as part of her "Julia Inspires" campaign that continues to build on her success as spokesperson for the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association. Middle and high school administrators can request a presentation at www.clukeyluge.com.

Clukey, 31, continues to train for her 19th season in the sport of luge. This summer, she will host Julia Clukey's Camp for Girls at Camp KV in Readfield. She has set a goal to compete in the luge at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
