When I wrote last week's column I made a mistake. It is the Class of 1958 that will be holding its class lunch Thursday, March 17 (today), at noon at the Waterfront restaurant. Come one, come all. Everyone is welcome. If you have questions, call Brenda 236-8459. The class has received word that their classmate Norma Hill has passed away. Brenda will give the details at the lunch.

Hope Elementary School pre-K update

HES is now collecting names of students interested in attending the fall pre-K program. Incoming students must be 4 years old on or before Oct. 15, 2016. Please call the school office at 785-4081 to hold a space for your child. Also, please call if you have or know a student that will be entering kindergarten in the fall.

HES Yearbooks

Yearbook order forms are now available at the office. Order deadline is April 14. Yearbooks cost $15 each and will be delivered in June. Checks should made payable to Hope Elementary School. Yearbooks can also be ordered online at ybpay.lifetouch.com online ID 323-9816.

Band and Chorus Raffle

Don't forget the band and Chorus are raffling two gift certificates for membership or to take classes. Tickets are $5 for one or $10 for three. Tickets will be raffled off soon.


The second-graders have been busy researching Maine animals. They each chose an animal to study and they learned about their animals diet, habitat and interesting facts. They also created a model of the animal they chose to study.


Storyteller Dovie Thomason will visit and share traditional stories from Lakota, Kiowa and Apache families, as well as Eastern Woodlands native traditions on Thursday, March 24. She will have one-hour sessions of storytelling and discussion with the students. Thomason will conclude with local storytellers at Sweet Tree's Annual Story Slam Friday, March 25.
