Sheepscot Valley Chorus will begin rehearsals for its spring semester Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Wiscasset. The group is led by director Linda Blanchard and accompanist Sean Fleming, both of Damariscotta. The couple also helms the St. Cecilia Chamber Choir, which is auditioning new members for all voice parts. Rehearsals take place Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle.

Sheepscot Valley Chorus

Sheepscot Valley Chorus will be preparing music of English composer Benjamin Britten, including his joyfully exuberant Te Deum in C; and the beautiful and mystical “Rejoice in the Lamb,” which sets the poetry of Christopher Smart. It also will explore songs of the seaside and springtime. Performances are scheduled for April 9 and 10 in Newcastle. For more information, visit sheepscotvalleychorus.org or call Blanchard at 380-2768.

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir begins the new year with a program celebrating the rich treasure of a cappella music through the ages including works of Byrd, Schütz, Gesualdo, Josquin, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn and a wealth of 20th-century masters. To schedule an audition, call Blanchard or email audition@ceciliachoir.org.

Singers should have good vocal control, and sopranos and altos should be able to sing without vibrato. The ability to read music is much preferred, but those who cannot read may participate by spending extra time learning the music at home with the aid of provided practice materials.  For more information about the choir, visit ceciliachoir.org.
