Master Brush Painter Frederica Marshall is an artist, teacher and researcher who lived in Japan for 28 years and studied Sumi-e (Asian brush painting) for 10 years with Master Grace Yen. Marshall. She will lead a hands-on workshop on sumi-e at the Camden Public Library, 55 Main St., Thursday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. The library is offering a series of workshops during “Jumpstart January;” registration is limited, so call the library to sign up; there is a $10 materials fee for each workshop.

The remaining workshops in the series after the sumi-e session are Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m., “Altered Books” with Amy Hand, and Thursday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m., “Pysanky Eggs” with Jim and Chris Sady.

In Marshall’s class, participants will learn to paint the gorgeous environment of Maine in the ancient style of Asian brush painting. Birch and evergreen trees, rocks, sky and water will create an amazing ink and watercolor experience for you. No previous experience is necessary.
