Happy New Year to all our friends, adopters, volunteers and supporters. Thank you for a very successful year of saving lives and creating families at the Pope Memorial Humane Society in 2015. We couldn't have done it without you!

With your help, we are ready to do it again in 2016 for all the animals who need our help getting a second chance. Animals like pet pick of the week Milo, a spunky 6-year-old tri-colored beagle. Milo is a friendly dog. He is fine with other dogs and tolerates cats, unless, of course, a good chewing bone is involved and they are asking him to share. It's all about Milo then and he does not like to share. Milo has a typical beagle bay, but seems to share it only when the situation warrants it. He has a keen sense of smell and likes to explore all the different odors on his walks. Milo will make a fine companion for someone looking for an amiable, medium-sized dog.

Looking for someone a little more demure? Then you should meet Swami. She is a beautiful, bashful adult brown tabby. Although she may initially seem standoffish, she is easily won over. Swami is sure to flourish in a home of her own and be a loving, adoring companion.

Help spread some good karma. How? Just purchase a “Good Karma” blue reusable bag at the Rockland Hannaford store in January and $1 from each bag will be donated to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County. You get a great bag for your groceries, the homeless animals in our community get a second chance, and there is less waste going into landfills. That’s a lot of good karma!

Are your returnable bottles and cans from the holidays piling up? Consider recycling them for a good cause — helping homeless animals at the shelter. You can join the Clynk program, which makes it really easy. We have special coded bags at the shelter that you fill up and then drop off at Hannaford. No counting. No waiting. No mess. Your returnables are automatically credited to PMHSKC's account.  To get your bags, stop by the shelter and speak with a staff member. Or you can drop off your bottles/cans at the Thomaston Transfer station in the specially marked bin. Every bit helps and it adds up quickly. Thank you.

Wish list: Canned cat food (poultry pate preferred), large black garbage bags, peanut butter, dogand& cat toys, catnip, 6-inch paper plates, paper towels, stamps, latex gloves, gift certificates to Wal-Mart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses. Thanks for your support.
