Midcoast a cappella vocal ensemble VoXX: Voice of Twenty celebrates the arrival of 2016 with its annual January concert series.
The Music for the New Year concert program features midwinter and Epiphany themes with music that ranges from solemn to upbeat, sacred to secular. The repertoire covers both a broad spectrum of time, from medieval through the present; and of style, from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony through contemporary works. The program includes works by Victoria, Duruflé, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Byrd, Hassler and more.
VoXX will present five performances of Music for the New Year: Saturday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Newcastle; Sunday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Lewiston; Friday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at Rockport’s Union Hall, 24 Central St.; Saturday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. at Belfast’s St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 95 Court St.; and Sunday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at Phippsburg Congregational Church. Snow date for the Midcoast concerts is Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at Union Hall.
Admission in Newcastle, Rockport, Belfast and Phippsburg is $10, with tickets available at the door. Donations in Lewiston will be accepted in Lewiston to benefit the basilica’s organ restoration fund. For more information, email info@voiceoftwenty.com or visit voiceoftwenty.com.
