The Center for Maine Contemporary Art invites one and all to the first art exploration of the new year Saturday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at CMCA's temporary South End location, 218 Main St. (formerly Sweets & Meats).

Cartooning and Character Design ArtLab participants will experiment with a variety of materials including dice and flip-flap-book-stax. Children, adults and families are invited to develop their own original figures with personality, spirit, and poise. ArtLab is free of charge and open to all.

CMCA's Saturday afternoon ArtLabs are led by interdisciplinary artist/educator Alexis Immarino, who received her master’s degree in in Community Art from Maryland Institute College of Art and is lead artist for CMCA's Leaps of Imagination program. She teaches in RSU 13's RASA program; is the creative arts coordinator for Camden's Wayfinder School; and is an educator and member of Steel House. Having collaborated on five large-scale public murals, Immarino completed her most recent one on Oak Street in Rockland.

CMCA is grateful for the generous support of the Milton and Sally Avery Art Foundation, Bob Crewe Foundation, Camden National Bank and individual donors.
