Suomalaiset Jouset (Finnish Strings), a local ensemble of students of the Finnish folk instrument known as the kantele, will perform Monday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Farnsworth Art Museum. Seating is first come/first served for the free concert.
The group is associated with the Finnish Heritage House in South Thomaston. Over the last 2,000 years, the kantele has lent playing styles to the modern Celtic harp, Appalachian dulcimer, zither, hammered dulcimer and autoharp. Its 11 strings are either plucked or strummed.
The free concert is part of the Farnsworth’s annual Share the Wonder programming.
