Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 18, for a concert by acclaimed guitarist and songwriter Richard Thompson Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St.

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Thompson also is one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting from the Americana Music Association in Nashville and the BBC Awards, as well as the prestigious Ivor Novello in Britain.

Having co-founded the groundbreaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the 1960s, Thompson and his band mates were instrumental in creating British folk rock. By age 21, he had left the band to pursue his own career, followed by a decade-long musical partnership with his then-wife Linda.

Thompson continued on to more than 30 years as a highly successful solo artist. A wide range of musicians have recorded Thompson’s music including Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, REM, Del McCoury, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, David Byrne, Don Henley and many others.

Tickets are $45, general admission. To buy tickets, or for more information on all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts and events at the Strand, visit; call 594-0070, ext. 3; or email
