Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker, performed by the Bolshoi Ballet,” will be presented as a captured-live high definition broadcast from Moscow Sunday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St.

In the story, young Marie is given a wooden nutcracker as a gift on Christmas Eve. When the clock strikes midnight, the nutcracker transforms into a prince and saves Marie from the Mouse King and his army. This beloved holiday classic, with its fairytale setting and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, is appropriate for the whole family.

The Bolshoi’s version of “The Nutcracker” has a beautiful sense of romance and philosophy, danced by the heroic Denis Rodkin as the courageous Prince and the magical Anna Nikulina as Marie to choreography by Yuri Grigorovich. It runs two hours and 10 minutes.

Tickets are $15, $10 for students younger than 19 and college students with ID, available at the Box Office or by calling 594-0070, ext. 3.  For more information about all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts and events at the Strand, call; visit; or email
