Midcoast author Susan Vaughan will sign her new release, “Always a Suspect,” a prequel to her Task Force Eagle series, Wednesday, Dec. 16 form 1 to 2 p.m. at Sherman’s Books & Stationery, 128 Main St.

In “Always a Suspect,” persecuted widow Claire Saint-Ange thinks the P.I. she hired is her defender, here to clear her name and protect her from anonymous threats. Instead, he was sent to her coastal Maine town to uncover her darkest secrets — and maybe put her behind bars. Two tragic losses cause federal agent Michael Quinn to submit his resignation, but he is forced into one last gig —spend Christmas investigating the widow’s connection to her late husband’s drug smuggling. The frozen Maine landscape, deadly attacks and shocking revelations test Claire and Michael at every turn … and the blazing desire between them threatens their very lives.

Vaughan taught in the MSAD 50 schools for many years. She has published two nonfiction publications in the field of beginning reading; one young adult novel; and, with this new release, 12 romantic suspense novels.
