The Rockport Public Library is moving to its temporary space at 485 Commercial St. beginning Saturday, Dec.12, and continuing until the move is complete.

In order to make the transition as quick and economical as possible, volunteers are requested to help with various aspects of the move.

Volunteers are needed for the following teams:

Shelving Team: Prior to the move, the library needs help completing the shelving units. This entails setting up shelving and adding shelves to already set up units.Shelving also must be cleaned and dusted in preparation for the books and other materials. The date of the shelving part will be announced soon.

1 Limerock Team: This group will box, tape, label and pack the books in preparation for moving. Volunteers should be prepared to load boxes on to trucks to move to the new site. This also requires moving the labeled boxes to the various areas in the building. Moving will start at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 12. This group will meet at the current library.

485 Commercial Team: This group will unload boxes and move those books onto the new shelving. This team will be doing the reverse of the 1 Limerock Team. The first truckload of books should arrive at the new site by 9 a.m. Dec. 12.

Art Hangers: The library has a number of pieces of artwork that need to be hung in the new space. Ladders and step stools will be provided, along with an assortment of tools. The art hangers will be working under our Art Czar, who knows where all the art will be hung.

Food: Also needed are goodie angels. Feel free to drop off any tasty treats to feed the volunteers who will be lifting and lugging books.

Once the move is over, help will still be needed. The library needs greeters to provide library tours for about two weeks after the move.

Another important aspect of the move is to make sure the books are shelved properly. That work requires volunteers with good attention to detail to make sure the books are in proper order.

Signup sheets and additional information are available at the library or by calling 236-3642.
