First Universalist Church, 345 Broadway, is now accepting Snow Day Camp registrations from families in RSU 13 with elementary-age children. The camp was conceived after last winter, when members of the church noticed families struggling to find affordable child care on days when school was canceled.

Carney Doucette, director of religious exploration, said, “We saw this need, and knew we could address it with our facility. We have a team of qualified adults willing to help on snowy days to provide an affordable, quality experience for children.”

Snow Day Camp is designed to provide safe and supportive day care to children aged 5 to 10 on days when school is canceled because of snow. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church. Breakfast, lunch and two snacks will be served. Most Snow Day Camp staffers are volunteers. They will direct and supervise campers in organized activities such as arts and crafts, science experiments, meal and snack preparation, movie screening and board games.

The cost is $15 per snow day. A deposit of $30 is required to reserve a space. This fee will be returned if no snow days are scheduled. Registration is limited to 30 children on a first come, first served basis with a deadline of Dec. 31. Snow Day Camps will be ready after Jan. 1.
