Gray Moon Salon opened last week, filling a space that had been vacant for more than two years at 359 Broadway in Rockland.

Jayne Moon and niece Mallory Gray bring extensive experience to their business. Moon, a Rockland native, also operates a salon in St. Augustine, Fla. She said she has become a snowbird, and will enjoy family and fresh Maine air in the summers and the warm sun and beaches in the winter.

Gray has built a clientele working at several other local salons.

"She always said she wanted to be a hairdresser like her auntie," said Moon. Now the two are in business together.

The salon seeks to create a relaxing environment with its tie in of "beauty, wellness and art".

Moon said since she is in business everything is for sale — products, services, and various art pieces on display.

Another unique offering is one-on-one wellness appointments for nutritional lifestyle tips.

Gray Moon Salon is hosting an open house Friday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. The community is invited to drop by and check them out. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to the Teen & Young Parents Program.

"I believe in giving back to the community," said Moon.

Salon hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays by appointment, and closed Sundays and Mondays. To make an appointment or for more information call 593-8342.
