Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, D-Maine was presented the 2014 Distinguished Community Health Award Aug. 21 the Islands Community Medical Services of Vinalhaven.

"It's expensive to run a clinic out here with blue collar workers," said Earl Morse, physician's assistant at the island clinic.

Dinah Moyer, executive director of the clinic, presented the award to Pingree on behalf of the National Association of Community Health Care Centers and the Federally Qualified Health Care Centers.

"Thank you so much for your support of Amercia's health care centers and all of us here," said Moyer.

"Having Vinalhaven as the example of why these [facilities] are so important is great," said Pingree. "I am a big fan of FQHC's," she added. "They really make a difference."

Members of the clinic board of directors, clinic staff and representatives from the Maine Primary Care Association were on hand to thank Pingree for her support.
