Anyone traveling through Warren on Route 1 near North Pond may be wondering why the traffic is slightly rerouted.

Town Manager Elaine Clark said a sinkhole developed through a culvert under the road between North Pond and the marsh area across the road.

The rerouting of traffic via construction gates has continued since late spring. The delay in repairing the issue is due to Maine Department of Transportation needing to get a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers.

It will be a couple more months before the work is begun, according MDOT spokesman Ted Talbot Aug. 25.
