Town Office News

Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. at Appleton Town Office, there will be a special meeting and public hearing.The Appleton Board of Appeals will host the special meeting and public hearing to comply with a Knox County Superior Court order requiring that the Appleton Board of Appeals deny a variance of setback from public right of way granted to Appleton Ridge Construction LLC.


The first day of school will be Sept. 2.

We welcome the new Principal Susan Stilwell. Susan worked at AVS 10 years ago as a technology teacher. She is very excited to be back at AVS! She will be in and out of the school for the rest of this month, but would like to invite everyone to drop in for an informal "meet and greet" with the staff Thursday, Aug. 28, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be a few new faces around the school this year. Amy Vargo will be the new music teacher, Holly Billings will teach grade 7 and 8 literacy and social studies and Dawn Smith will be a new Ed Tech. They are still looking for a Spanish teacher, nurse and part-time custodian. Susan has also started a Facebook page for the school, for all those into Facebook, you should definitely check it out.

Appleton Historical Society News

Harvest of the Arts will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Meetinghouse. We have a call out for Appleton artists, authors, musicians, and craftspeople who would like to participate. Jan Janville has agreed to be the initial contact person for those interested in participating, either by performing, or exhibiting, or assisting in refreshments and setting up for the day. Appleton Library News

Stories of the Land and Its People Exhibit is being displayed at the library right now. Its on loan from the Farnsworth Art Museum featuring fourth- and seventh-grade photography from Appleton Village School students.

This exhibit is the result of a year-long arts integration initiative in Midcoast public schools, in which students work with museum educators, professional artists, classroom teachers, art teachers and community members to tell the story of their community through art.
