The Law Office of Michael Wiers has assumed responsibility for the unclaimed client files and original wills prepared by (or in the custody of) Dale Thistle. Former clients who wish to retrieve files or will, please call Attorney Wiers’ office at 355-3200 during normal business hours.

All files in Attorney Wiers’ custody will be retained for the requisite time period prescribed by the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct. All closed files older than eight years will not be retained beyond Oct. 6. Subsequently, those files will be confidentially destroyed; however all original wills and other valuable documents will be permanently retained at the Board of Overseers of the Bar in Augusta.

Shankman and Associates is acting as a temporary repository for the unclaimed client files of suspended Attorney William Cote. Those wishing to retrieve files, should contact Attorney Shankman’s office at 786-0311during normal business hours.

Files currently housed at Shankman and Associates will be retained at the Lewiston office until Nov. 7. Closed files will thereafter be monitored by the Board of Overseers and retained at an off-site storage facility. Files older than eight years will not be retained beyond Nov. 7. The Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar was created by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court in 1978 to govern the conduct of lawyers as officers of the Court. The Board regulates the conduct of lawyers by enforcing the Maine Bar Rules and the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct adopted by the Court. All disciplinary decisions and orders may be viewed on the Board’s website.
