AVS News

The first day of school will be Sept. 2.

We welcome new Principal Susan Stilwell. Susan worked at AVS 10 years ago as a technology teacher. She is very excited to be back at AVS! She will be in and out of the school for the rest of this month, but would like to invite everyone to drop in for an informal "meet and greet" with the staff Thursday, Aug. 28, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be a few new faces around the school this year. Amy Vargo will be the new music teacher, Holly Billings will teach grade 7 and 8 literacy and social studies, and Dawn Smith will be a new Ed Tech. They are still looking for a Spanish teacher, nurse, and part-time custodian. Susan has also started a Facebook page for the school, for all those into Facebook, you should definitely check it out.

Union Farmer's Market

Don't forget to stop by the Union Farmer's Market on Friday afternoons! The farmer's market is in the Union Common from 3 to 6 p.m.

We are always so anxious for summer to come. It seems like it takes forever to get here, and then it is gone in a second. The Union Fair is starting this weekend, and to me that is the sign that summer is almost over. I remember as a child, waiting and waiting for the Union Fair to come! Just as my own kids do now. They are so anxious for the rides, to see all the animals, and their favorite … fair food! I remember the excitement as a child as we went down that last hill in Union before we got to Route 17 and we could see the Ferris wheel! We were so excited! We worked hard during blueberry season and now we were going to the fair!

I hope you all have a had a wonderful summer! And don't forget, if you have any news to share, please contact me!
