A 36-year-old Vinalhaven man was found dead near his unmanned lobsterboat off Vinalhaven Aug. 13.

Medical emergency personnel pronounced Jeremy Philbrook dead in Carver's Harbor after he was transferred to their care, said a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Philbrook was the only person aboard his vessel, and the U.S. Coast Guard is leading the investigation of the manner of death.

The call to dispatch came in at about 1:40 p.m after what is described as a good Samaritan aboard another boat came upon the scene, said the release.

"This is a heartbreaking incident in the community. We want to find out exactly what happened so we can prevent a similar tragedy from occurring again. Remember to wear a lifejacket if you are on the water by yourself," said Lt. Scott McCann of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Maine Marine Patrol also responded to the incident.
