Afghanistan, Iraq war veteran to speak in Camden

Mark Zambon, a U.S. Marine Corp. staff sergeant will speak at a sunset seminar Thursday, Aug. 7 at Camden Yacht Club.

Zambon will share an inspirational story of the human spirit, the power of teamwork and the great nation.

Zambon has six deployments under his belt — three in Iraq and three in Afghanistan.

On his fifth deployment, he lost three fingers on his left hand when a bomb he was trying to clear went off. He healed from that and opted to go back for a sixth deployment.

On that last deployment in Afghanistan, Zambon got a call to clear a bomb found in the field. On his way in, a secondary and unseen bomb went off when he stepped on it. He lost both of his legs above the knees.

Zambon has not lost a step and he is in Camden to compete in the Lobster SUP Cup.
