If we were to hold a contest for Biggest Lap Cat Ever — “big” as in enthusiastic practitioner and not size, that is — our chiaroscuro Tristan would win paws down. This sweet boy is looking for an owner who has a lap ready for occupancy just about any time of the day and just about any place: sofa, recliner, etc. In addition to being a champion lap cat, he is one of the friendliest cats ever and loves just about everyone — even other cats! (As long as they’re not occupying what he considers one of his laps.)

Our beautiful (and how!) Hazel, on the other hand, enjoys hanging out in cat houses and on comfy beds. Hazel would like an owner who appreciates, and shares, her quiet side and her need to be somewhat independent (which is, after all, what cats are famous for). Top on her list of fun things to do is get a good position in a cat porch and just sit and watch the world go by.

We are looking to fill our position of cat transporter to local banks. The duties (if you can call something so much fun a duty) include stopping by PAWS in the morning and taking some of our kittens and cats to three local banks for the day and then, in the afternoon, bringing them back to the shelter.

Bank jobs are one of our most successful ways of getting kits and cats adopted, and the program brings more awareness of PAWS and what we do. We have openings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and you can fill spots all three days or just the one of your choice. Pick-up is at 9 a.m. at PAWS; we collect the crew at 2:30 p.m. and bring them back to the shelter. A staff member will show you how to set up and clean the play cage (not rocket science but close, especially if you’re a biggish person trying to set a little-ish cage). You’ll need a valid driver’s license, love of animals and just a couple of hours of your time. For more information, please call or stop by.

(P.S. We’ve done this job, and it’s fun! Not only do you get a chance to meet the wonderful people who work at the banks we use, you also get to spend time with our fabulous felines. But best of all is finding out that one or some of the sweeties you’ve put on display has found a home with a bank customer!)

On our wish list: Purina Kitten Chow (we still have lots of kittens), paper towels, towels and bleach. Thank you, as always, for your thoughtful generosity.

Well, the summer we awaited so anxiously a few months is starting to draw to an end, and we have a lot of four-footers who hope the fall will find them in a home of their own. It won’t be hard to recognize a potential new member of your family: Just drop by and see us and all our lovely lasses and lads at 146 Camden St. in Rockport. We’re open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, our phone number is (207) 236-8702 and pawsadoption.org is never closed! And thank you, as always, for your caring and support.
