On Thursday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. the Sail, Power and Steam Museum will launch the Friendship sloop that volunteers have been working on for three years.
Construction on the 28-foot sloop was started in 1966 and then set aside for many more years. The owner donated it to the museum and volunteers, fueled only by pizza, have been working to complete it ever since.
Now she is ready to launch and truly lives up to her name, Persistence. All are invited to watch the launch.
The museum wants to thank all the wonderful volunteers who gave their time, thoughts and muscle to make this happen.
Sharp’s Point South and the Sail, Power and Steam Museum are at 75 Mechanic St. in Rockland. For more information on the Sail, Power and Steam Museum and its programs, call 701-7627 or 596-0200, email sailpowersteammuseum@gmail.com or visit sharpspointsouth.com.
