GVHS reunion for all Aug. 9

ST. GEORGE — A reunion for all teachers, employees and students that attended Georges Valley High School in Thomaston during the school's opening, between 1964-2011 will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 10:30 p.m. at Echo Hill, Route 131, St. George. Prizes, DJ and food. Tickets: $25 at the door.

Friendship Museum annual meeting

FRIENDSHIP — The Friendship Museum will hold its annual meeting Saturday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Friendship Town Office. All members of the museum are welcome to attend. Anyone interested in joining may do so at the meeting. A variety of items will be discussed including this years 50th anniversary celebration and future plans for the museum. Demmons benefit

HOPE — A benefit dinner for the late Don Demmons and his wife Pat will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, at Beaver Lodge in South Hope. A potluck will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and music by Dick Philbrook and the Frye Mountain Band, which Demmons was a member of for 25 years, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. The dinner is by donation and there will also be raffles. Bring a dish or dessert to share, if possible.

Game night

TENANTS HARBOR — On Thursday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. Jackson Memorial Library will host its first-ever Bunco night. Bunco, which originated in 18th century England, is a fast-paced dice game that involves only chance, easy scoring, and maximum fun. With each round you have a different partner, so it's a great way to meet new friends in your community. Throw $5 into the "kitty" at the start of the night, and there will be at least four winners by night's end. All are welcome to bring a snack or dessert to share, though not required.

Flower arranging workshop at St. John’s

THOMASTON — The Altar Guild of the Episcopal Church of St. John Baptist is offering a Flower Arranging Workshop Saturday, Aug. 16. The workshop, from 9 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m., will be led by Jonnie Sue Hicks, from the Flower Guild of St. Alban’s Church and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

The cost of the workshop is $65 per person. Flowers, other materials, supplies, and containers will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a sharp knife, a pair of scissors, and, if desired, their own 8 to 10-inch basket for their carry home arrangement. Lunch, dessert and beverages will be provided. Rockland's Class of 1984 to celebrate

ROCKLAND — Rockland District High School Class of 1984 will hold its 30th class reunion Saturday, Aug. 16, from 6 to 10 p.m. at American Legion, 335 Limerock St., Rockland. The cost is $20 per person and there will be a cookout with burgers, hotdogs, salads and cake. There will also be a cash bar, 50/50 raffle, music, slideshow and non-alcoholic beverages will also be served.

Final week of 40 Days of Summer

THOMASTON — The final week of 40 Days of Summer at Thomaston Public Library is Aug. 11 to 15 and food will be the focus. Stop by all five days from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for summer food and craft fun.

On Tuesday, Aug. 12, Dena Davis will be the special guest at story time. She will conduct a mini cookbook-writing workshop and participants will illustrate a favorite food story. Sample Dena’s grandmother’s favorite recipe: yaya tzatziki! Read, tell, and illustrate food memories!

On Wednesday, Aug. 13 special guest Nancy Wood will teach about nutrition and make a tasty snack.
