Developer Rick Bresnahan had a vision, a vision of an indoor turf field that would service the Penobscot Bay and Midcoast area. Now, after all of the planning and building, that vision, aptly named The PITCH (PenBay Indoor Turf & Community Hub), is about to open its doors to the public.

Although the official open-to-public date is not until September, a special open house was held for those who helped bring an idea to reality on July 26.

The 75,000-square-foot facility on Route 90 houses a 95- by 60-yard indoor turf field that can be divided into two or four field areas. The areas are separated by nets suspended from the ceiling.

The facility will host sports such as soccer, field hockey, baseball, softball, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, football, kickball, laser tag and even birthday parties.

There also be open gym hours on Mondays through Fridays 2:30 to 5 p.m.

A community/meeting room is available for use as well. The multi-purpose function room seats about 70 people, has a television and a kitchen.

There also is a play room to keep toddlers or non-participating children busy while other children practice. The PITCH pay-to-play room is decked with a CedarWorks play set for children to explore.

Area construction companies Omni Construction, Maine Coast Construction, McGee Construction and Newman Concrete Services have been working on The PITCH project for the past year.
