“On the Edge,” a one-act performance art play, will be presented Friday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St. This one-night-only presentation is co-sponsored by the Island Institute and Seacoast Mission.
Written by Matinicus author Eva Murray and presented with paintings by Philip Steel, the play will feature fourth-generation commercial fisherman and former Maine state senator Dennis Damon. Stephen Romanoff of Schooner Fare also will make a special appearance.
"On the Edge" tells the story of lobster-fishing communities on Maine's year-round islands; islanders’ determination to maintain their communities despite complex logistics, economic uncertainty and shrinking populations; and the warmth, as well as the struggle, of island life.
Tickets are $10, $6 for those younger than 13, and can be purchased at Archipelago, the Island Institute store at 386 Main St. in Rockland, or online at Brown Paper Tickets. For more information, contact Nancy Carter at 594-9209, ext. 133.
