River Arts on Route 1 invites the public to an opening reception for its newest exhibition,  “The Maine Story,” Friday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition includes 120 works in a wide variety of media by 90 Maine artists, including a number from the Midcoast. Music for the opening will be provided by Sylvia Tavares. The exhibition will run until Aug. 28.

Juror for the exhibition is Susan Groce, professor of Art and department chairwoman at the University of Maine, Orono. Midcoast artists with work in “The Maine Story” include

River Arts holds 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions per year, with some of Maine’s most prominent art community members as jurors. More than 800 different Maine artists have exhibited in these shows. The gallery program creates opportunity for artists to have their work selected, participate in the gallery process and sell their work.
