Three teenagers are charged with arson following their arrest July 27 for the damage of portable toilets on Scott Street in Rockland.

Daniel Spear, of Cushing, remains in custody at the Knox County Jail on a probation hold following his initial court appearance in Sixth District Court. Bail was set at $5,000 cash.

Philip Seekins, 18, of South Thomaston was released on $500 cash bail July 27, said Jail Supervisor Kathy Carver.

A 16-year-old Thomaston juvenile was also charged. His name is not being released due to his age.

According to a state Fire Marshal's Office investigator, Spear admitted to setting the toilets on fire July 16 and July 25, using hand sanitizer to spread the blaze.

Arson is a class A felony and can carry up to a 30-year prison sentence.

The second account of arson occurred after the first fire damaged toilets had been replaced.

The suspects were initially identified from video surveillance footage, and were subsequently interviewed.

Three other teenagers told Investigator Mary MacMaster that Spear started the fire, but admitted they were present. The report also states Spear and Seekins told others they had set the fire.
