There will be a book launch and signing with author Jan Gilley for her book "Light on Jib Island" Friday, July 25, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Maine Lighthouse Museum, 1 Park Drive.

Winner in the Pre-teen Fiction category in the 2014 National Indie Excellence Award, “Light on Jib Island” focuses on a Maine lighthouse keeper’s family, especially on a young teenage daughter’s experience, during the 1920s, before people even thought of automated lighthouses. Twelve-year-old Elizabeth carries out responsibilities that few would expect of today’s young teenagers. While written with young teens in mind, anyone who loves the rugged Maine coast would enjoy this historical novel. Gilley based her book on her own family lore.

There will be a drawing with everyone who attends receiving a chance to win a copy of "Light on Jib Island" and there also will be copies of some of the illustrations in the book signed by Skye Sanderson, the illustrator. For more information call the museum at 594-3301; visit; or check it out on Facebook.
